Society and law: The All-Russian Scientific-Practical Conference to the 150th anniversary of the approval of Judicial Statues of 1864 in Saint-Petersburg

March 22, 2013 in the Main building of the National Library of Russia (Saint-Petersburg) on the eve of the 150th anniversary of the approval of Judicial Statues of 1864 is held the All-Russian Scientific-Practical conference “The relationship of constitutional and criminal legal proceedings”.

This conference is the third scientific event, dedicated to problems of constitution in the field of penal justice.

The participants of the conference will discuss issues of normative significance of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation (CC) in the criminal and procedure law, issues of development tendencies of legal positions on the CC in the field of penal justice, as well as issues of treatment courts and citizens with requests and complaints to violation of constitutional rights, as well as the review of judicial decisions on criminal cases based on the decisions of the CC.

As part of the conference there will be held the opening of the unique exhibition “let truth and mercy reign in courts”. For the first time the exhibition features documents, telling of the work upon the creation of Judicial Statues of 1864, the 150th anniversary of the Russian legal proceedings. Judicial Statues of 1864 - is a unique publication of four famous codes adopted during the Great Patriotic judicial reform in 1864. They were preceded by the adoption of their tremendous work of the Russian reformers. Alexander II in his famous decree recognized the Senate draft statute relevant to “settle in Russia speedy trial, right, gracious, equal for all citizens of our own, to elevate the judiciary, to give it a proper independence and generally approve of the people the respect for the law, without welfare and not to be permanent head of everyone from the highest to the lowest”.

The conference is organized by the National Library of Russia, the North-West branch of the Russian Academy of Justice and the International Union of Assistance to Justice.
