Information technology abroad: Google has introduced the new technology of web content compression

4 March 2013

Google has published information about its new product: the compression algorithm with which Internet giant hopes to accelerate the work in the Internet for all users. The new algorithm has got the name Zopfli, and it presents the open algorithm, capable to speed up the transfer of information and to reduce the load time, squeezing the entire content of the network of about 8% more efficient than famous software of the library Zlib.

“The higher density of data is achieved through the use of more sophisticated compression techniques. As a result, the server has some additional burden caused by compression, decompression, but the speed is virtually the speed of the usual content”, - told in Google.

Technically, Zopfli is a compression library that compresses or decompresses the information. It works regardless of the content and is compatible with different formats and technologies, in particular gZip, ZIP, PNG, http and others. “Smaller data allow more effective use of space, faster data transfer and increase the speed of the site”, - the company says.
