President of Russia: Vladimir Putin signed Executive Order On Celebration of the 70th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War

President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed Executive Order “On Preparations for the Celebration of the 70th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945”.

The President signed the Executive Order, taking into account the global historical role of the victory over fascism in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and with the aim of coordinating the work of government agencies at all levels and public organizations to prepare and hold celebrations of the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Russia’s Pobeda (Victory) organizing committee will be responsible for this coordination work.

In particular, the Russian Federation Government has been instructed to develop, together with the Pobeda (Victory) organizing committee, a plan for preparing and holding the main celebratory events, including those honoring the 70th anniversary of decisive battles and other highly important events in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

The Government of the Russian Federation has been instructed to provide and support the plan on preparations of the main festive events.

In collaboration with Russia’s Foreign Ministry, the Pobeda (Victory) organizing committee has been instructed to contact the governments of CIS member states, former anti-Hitler coalition members and other nations, as well as international and national NGOs, with the suggestion to participate in the preparations for celebratory events.

Corresponding instructions have been given to federal and regional executive authorities. In particular, the instructions pertain to cleaning up military graves and memorial complexes, monuments and obelisks, graves of guerrilla fighters, underground fighters and concentration camp prisoners, as well as seeking out and burying the remains of soldiers killed defending the Fatherland in 1941-1945.
