To the 400th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty: The exhibition of portraits “The Monarchial Gallery” at the Museum –Reserve “Kolomenskoye”
April 24, 2013 at the Palace Hall of 1825 at the Museum-Reserve “Kolomenskoye” opened the exhibition “The Monarchial Gallery”. The exhibition is dedicated to the 400th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty. It includes portraits of members of the Russian Imperial family of Peter II to Alexander II from the museum-estate “Ostankino”.
These magnificent formal portraits of George Dawe are included in the collection of the Ostankino Palace since the mid of the XIX century, when the Ostankino was visited by Emperor Alexander II, who was preparing for the coronation ceremony in the Moscow Kremlin.
Other works have been acquired recently as a part of the famous connoisseur and collector of Russian portrait miniature of V. E. Ratner, numbering three hundred items of exceptionally high quality art, and this exhibition is for them a kind of premiere. Among their authors are outstanding Russian and Western European miniaturists.
Portraits reveal private, “human” life of the royal family. Special places in the exhibition take portraits of Emperor Alexander I.
The exhibition will run till May 26, 2013.
