Electronic resources: The project “Electronic memory of the Arctic” presented

The Russian project “Electronic Memory of the Arctic” makes available to all over the world to contemplate the unique culture of the indigenous peoples of the North. This was said at the regional conference “Intangible heritage of the Finno-Ugric peoples as an object of conservation” in Khanty-Mansiysk by the first deputy governor of the autonomous region Gennady Bukhtin. Yugra, as he said, stood at the origins of the project.

“The project aims to build, digitize and provide free access to cultural and historic resources associated with the circumpolar world, currently stored in different formats in the national libraries, archives, museums and private collections. The last two decades it has been strong efforts to digitize the archives”, - he said.

Among the participants of the project are the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, the National Library of Russia, the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District, the Russian Geographical Society, the Russian State Library, the Institute of Russian Literature (the Pushkin House) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
