The Presidential library: New acquisitions

The Presidential Library Collection Territory of Russia has been enriched with graphic materials of Sochi of the XIX-XX centuries, provided by the private collection of the Tretyakov Gallery.

The album Photos of Old Sochi consists of 74 images, covering the period from 1838 to 1936.

The album contains materials that reflect one of the episodes of the Caucasian war - the creation of the Black Sea coastline (“The landing in Sochi in 1838”, “The landing at the Shahe River May 3, 1839”) and the final stage of the Civil War in the Sochi district (“Delivery of weapons to parts of Denikin in Sochi on May 2, 1920”).

The main series of photographs presents views of the city of Sochi and its surroundings: the Black Sea coast, parks, public buildings, financial, cultural, religious, social and recreational facilities (Villa “Faith” of Kostarev, Sulphur Spring on Matsesta, the resort “Caucasian Riviera”, the Primorskaya Street and Hotel “Grand hotel”, the Vereschaginsky park, the Pushkin Library, etc.).

Postcards of 1934-1937 published by the Azov-Black Sea branch Soyuzfoto (Rostov-on-Don), are introduced to the most famous views of the resort city:
