Society and Law: Young lawyers held a forum in St. Petersburg
May 14, 2013, in St. Petersburg State University, the IV International Youth Law Forum, organized jointly with the Association of Lawyers of Russia, took place. The Association of Lawyers of Russia (ALR) is the all-Russian public organization for legal practitioners, scholars, statesmen and social leaders. As of January 2013, it included more than 23, 650 members and had 83 regional offices.
The main topic of the forum is the anniversary of the Constitution of the Russian Federation. However, the participants of breakout sessions debated also on other extremely urgent issues, such as the voting right, combat of extremism and even the legal response to the illegal action of fans during football matches.
The opening of the plenary session was attended by the co-chair of the Association of Lawyers of Russia, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation, Veniamin Yakovlev; a member of the Presidium of the Association of Lawyers of Russia, Rector of St. Petersburg State University, Nikolai Kropachev, the chairman of the Association of Lawyers of Russia, State Secretary – Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, Igor Manylov. Opening the meeting, a member of the Presidium of the Association of Lawyers of Russia, the Minister of Justice of the Russian Federation, Alexander Konovalov said: "Youth Forum can push with its cars the entire legal locomotive of the country, because it is the young creative minds which are capable of delivering fresh, truly innovative solutions. I consider our youth wing a fledgling business incubator of new legal technologies."
Serious challenges set up by the legal community, are solved also by the use of new information resources, which are concentrated in the Presidential Library. An active research work is being done at the electronic reading room of the St. Petersburg State University created jointly with the library. "The St. Petersburg State University has an excellent relationship with the Presidential Library, said the rector of the St. Petersburg State University, Nikolai Kropachev. - We are in constant cooperation with its Director General, Alexander Vershinin to implement the projects that involve the most efficient use of the potential of both the university and the library.
