Society and culture: city action “Tchaikovsky Day” in St Petersburg

In memory of the outstanding Russian composer, May 7, 2013, under the support of the Government of St. Petersburg, will be resumed the annual city event "Tchaikovsky Day."

The curator of the action is the State Museum of Urban Sculpture (GMGS), which is in charge of the Necropolis of Masters of Arts, where the great composer is buried. The action brought together the leading cultural institutions of St. Petersburg, including the Mariinsky Theatre, Mikhailivsky Theatre, Shostakovich Academic Philharmonic of St. Petersburg, State Academic Capella in St. Petersburg, Museum of Theatre and Music, Mayakovsky Central City Public Library and many others.

The program of the "Tchaikovsky Day" includes concerts, lectures, demonstration of the films devoted to the composer and his musical legacy, meetings with artists. In the framework of the action, the opera "Eugene Onegin" will be demonstrated on the stage of the Mariinsky Theatre. In the Memorial Museum "Raznochinny Petersburg" will be held excursions on the life of Tchaikovsky in St. Petersburg. The Mayakovsky Central City Public Library will offer the visitors an exhibition of multimedia materials, as well as viewing of a biopic about the composer. Selected activities, covering the works of Tchaikovsky, will be held at music schools, educational institutions, houses of culture of St. Petersburg.

The real gift to St Petersburg citizens will be the event "Tchaikovsky's music in the metro." Throughout the day, the music of the composer will be played on the escalators of St. Petersburg Metro.
