Libraries of Russia: Five Moscow libraries to become media centers

A major reorganization of Moscow Libraries will be implemented in the next five years by the address of the city government, which created the Moscow City Library Center. In its framework this autumn will be open five new types of modernized libraries that will not only be equipped according to modern requirements, but also turn into a public space for activities of interest with a convenient schedule.

It is planned that on the basis of the five libraries will be created a single standard for the entire library network of the city of Moscow, which will be implemented over the next 5 years.

New media centers will clean separation of the subscription and reading room, simplify the writing process and to work in the institutions will attract not only people with library education, but also students and young people. Book storages will include global spatial, content, service, and technological changes. The libraries will have open spaces, Multibox for events and service wall, where visitors will be able to see the schedule of events and announcements, as well as leave requests for fun activities. The readers will be able to drink coffee, take part in discussions, attend relevant lectures, and watch films.

In addition to the reorganization of library spaces, the Moscow City Library Center will develop a consolidated electronic catalog of library collections in Moscow and will take over the functions of the state customer when placing orders for Collection Development of the library network of the city. As planned, it will increase the amount of new literature, to reduce the time of its acquisition to the library and improve the quality of the acquired publications.
