History and culture: “Faces. Estates, images, types in the portraits of the 18th – early 20th century” in the Moscow Region

22 July 2013

The exhibition "Faces. Estates, images, types in the portraits of the 18th – early 20th century" opened In the Historic-Architectural and Art Museum "New Jerusalem" (Moscow Region).

Looking at the faces one can see the way the time changed, the way the artists started to portrait representatives of all classes, including the "lower" ones. Peasant portraits by Sergey Korovin and Alexei Stepanov, which, by the way, are first displayed at this particular exhibition, date back to the end of the 19th century.

The era of radical social changes is reflected in the faces of the post-revolutionary time, one of the exposition halls is devoted in particular to this period.

Over 70 portraits that are on display are complemented by furniture, porcelain, samovars, watches and other items that  surrounded the portrayed people.

The exhibition runs from 17 July to 1 December 2013 in the Exhibition building of the "New Jerusalem" Museum.
