History of Russia: Scientific-Practical conference “At the turn of cultures: Tikhvin in the XVII century” in the Leningrad region

16-17 September 2013 in Tikhvin (the Leningrad region) is held the scientific and practical Conference “At the turn of cultures: Tikhvin in the XVII century”, dedicated to two anniversaries.

Exactly 400 years ago, Tikhvin rebelled against the Swedish invaders, becoming the center of the liberation movement in the Novgorod land and 100 years ago the museum of Tikhvin was founded, whose successor is a modern Tikhvin historical memorial and architectural and art museum.

The conference is attended by historians, art historians and linguists, archaeologists and architects from research institutions in Saint-Petersburg, Moscow, Novgorod and Saratov. Experts will share their experience in the study of events in the history of the Time of Troubles in the history of Tikhvin tenements and values, which played in those years the image of Our Lady of Tikhvin. A separate topic for discussion will be the problem of preserving the artistic culture of Tikhvin of the XVII century that gave outstanding painters to the fatherland.

During the conference will be opened a reconstructed exhibition “The House of the Virgin Mary at Tikhvin” dedicated to the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God. According to the director of the Tikhvin historical memorial and architectural and art museum Lesia Kolesnikova, the exposition will appear in a new design and greatly expanded with new material, including the period of the Time of Troubles and the Tikhvin uprising. The official opening of the exhibitions for the general public will take place after the completion of the conference – September 18.
