Internet and Society: "Runet is 20!" Online Project is Launched

Professional Internet Community is getting ready for a big party in honor of the celebrated on April 7, 2014, 20th anniversary of Russian segment of the World Wide Web. One of the large-scale events of the timed to the anniversary series is "Runet is 20!" online project launch, in which could participate all the Internet users.

"This project will live on the Internet for six months, getting filled with a content by any involved parties," - as the head of the Russian Association for Electronic Communications (RAEC) Sergei Plugotarenko said at a press conference. A chronology of 20 years of Runet history with the striking events highlighted will gradually appear at dedicated to Russian Internet appearance website.

"After all, the portal turned into online encyclopedia where you can find out about basic Internet industry companies that have greatly contributed into development of Runet, and offer your own related to the history of the Russian segment of the World Wide Web facts, memories and news," - explained Plugotarenko. At the moment, the information about the first Internet media, online stores and social networks is already on site. Each Runet year will be marked with a short video.

Runet Birthday will become a culmination of the project: next year on the 7th of April two decades summation ceremony will take place, following with a concert and a holiday show. On this day as far back as in 1994 the domain .ru made its appearance in the global network.
