History of Russia: Exhibition of photographs of Sergei Prokudin-Gorsky “The Past – another country” in Moscow
In the Moscow Museum is held the exhibition of photographs of Prokudin-Gorsky “The Past – another country” (“Russia in color”).
The exposition of one of the world’s most famous Russian masters of photography, a pioneer of color photography features views of old Russia, taken in the jubilee for the Romanov Dynasty year – 1913.
From 1904 to 1915 Prokudin-Gorsky created a huge body of work – a colored chronicle of pre-revolutionary Russia, remembering a variety of natural and man-made monuments of the Russian empire, as well as types of residents “in their natural habitat”.
The exposition “The Past – another country” included views of old Russia: from the medieval churches and monasteries to the railroads and factories of an emerging industrial power, as well as scenes of daily life and work of different segments of the population of the empire.
One of the aspects of the exhibition is the comparison of two eras, the early XX and the early XXI centuries.
Alongside with photographs of Prokudin-Gorsky are demonstrated works by Vyacheslav Ratnikov depicting familiar landscapes of today.
