History and culture: The final 2013 meeting of the Presidium of the Council of the Russian Historical Society held

December 26, 2013 in the State Duma was held a meeting of the Presidium of the Council of the Russian Historical Society (RIO). Participants summed up the year and discussed the work plan for 2014.

Chairman of the State Duma and RIO Sergei Naryshkin RIO identified a number of historical events, to which the Russian Historical Society should be paid in the coming year special attention. This is the 150th anniversary of the County and judicial reform, as well as the 100th anniversary of the First World War.

State Duma Chairman drew attention to the periods of the Soviet era, in particular, the NEP and the so-called "thaw", noting that they deserve in-depth study of historians: "The peculiarity of Russian history is that its pendulum swung too wide and sweeping, - said Sergei Naryshkin. - The question of the historical trends of movement in Russia to a democratic rule of law, including the constitutional reforms could become one of the "through" the priorities of the Russian Historical Society in the years ahead".

RIO chairman also noted that next year substantive preparations for the 70th anniversary of Victory in Great Patriotic War should happen. With dignity should be noted and anniversaries such as the 70th anniversary of the full liberation by Soviet troops from the blockade of Leningrad his Nazi troops and the liberation of Belarus.

Co-chairman of the Russian Historical Society, rector of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (University) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Anatoly Torkunov initiated the establishment of the journal of the Russian Historical Society.

Director of the Institute of Russian History recalled that 2015 will celebrate 110 years from the end of the Russian-Japanese war and offered to hold an exhibition in Port Arthur, where there is a museum dedicated to the events, where there are very few Russian exhibits.

Chairman of the State Duma supported the idea and offered to study the issue with the installation of the monument there.

Chairman of the Russian Historical Society, rector of the Moscow State University Sergey Shakhrai spoke of a youth branch of the Russian Historical Society.

According to the executive secretary of the RIO, head of analytical department of the State Duma Andrey Petrov, to date the Russian Historical Society includes 61 entities. The offices in Saint-Petersburg, Kazan, Penza, Tver, Tula and Novgorod are open. The first meeting of offices in Kirov and Tyumen are scheduled.
