Memory of the World: The monument to Erasmus opened in Moscow

In Moscow, at the M. I. Rudomino All-Russia State Library of Foreign Literature took place the opening ceremony of the monument to Erasmus - the outstanding Dutch humanist of Renaissance.

The event is timed to the cross – 2013th - year of cultural cooperation between Russia and the Netherlands and the upcoming Year of the science between Russia and the EU.

The author of the monument is the Russian sculptor from Saint-Petersburg Mikhail Yakovlev.

The monument is located in the atrium of the library, near the monuments of famous figures such as Dmitry Likhachev, Mahatma Gandhi, Leonardo da Vinci, Charles Dickens, Abraham Lincoln and Simon Bolivar.

Svetlana Gorokhova, deputy director of the LFL, noted the symbolism of the opening of the first Erasmus sculpture in Moscow at the turn of cultural and scientific heritage since this figure has two faces - the cultural and scientific.
