
History of Saint-Petersburg: Publishing and exhibition project “The Siege. The Tragedy of Leningrad” in the Narva Triumphal Arch
January 22, 2014 the Museum “Narva Triumphal Gate” (Saint-Petersburg) presents a publishing and exhibition project “The Siege. The Tragedy of Leningrad”.
“The Siege. The tragedy of Leningrad” – is a memorial program designed to preserve the knowledge of the most dramatic chapter in the history of our city.
The publishing part of the project - the book “The Siege. The Tragedy of Leningrad” united under one cover photos of life in the besieged city, a chronicle of besieged Leningrad, the memories of residents and defenders of the city on the Neva. When compiling the book, the emphasis was placed on the tragedy of the city and its inhabitants.
January 22, in the Narva Triumphal Gate will also be held an exhibition of the project. During the siege, the Narva Triumphal Gate were just 6 miles from the front, they were built around antitank fortifications. Through the Narva Gates of the Leningrad garrison soldiers went to the front, and in 1944 through the arch passed troops-winners.
Project partners: the Piskarevskoe Memorial Cemetery, the State Memorial Museum of Blockade of Leningrad, the Central State Archive of Film and Photo Documents of St. Petersburg, the St. Petersburg State University of Technology and Design.
The exhibition will run till February 9, 2014.
