
To the XXII Winter Olympic Games: Items with the symbols of the Games included in the collection of the Museum of the History of Saint-Petersburg
On the eve of the XXII Winter Olympic Games in Sochi the State Museum of the History of Saint-Petersburg granted from the Mint a set of 17 items with symbols of the Olympiad.
From February 6, the collection of souvenir coins, badges and bank notes are exhibited in the Neva curtain of the Peter and Paul Fortress near other exhibits received by the State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg in recent years (currently in the Neva curtain is presented an exhibition "New Acquisitions. 2008-2012").
The exhibition features 25-ruble coins depicting symbols of the Games "Sochi 2014" (leopard, bunny, and white teddy bear), symbols of the XI Paralympic Games ("snowflake" and "ray"), coins with images of mountains and maps of Russia. Commemorative badges with Olympic symbols - "Bunny. Alpine Skiing", "Leopard. Jumping on the ski jumping", "White Bear. Nordic Combined"; characters from the series "Sports silhouettes", "natural world", logo icon "Sochi 2014", as well as the Bank of Russia ticket cost 100 rubles, released specially for the Sochi Olympics.
The exhibition “New Acquisitions 2008-2012" runs until February 18. It is about collecting work of the State Museum of the History St. Petersburg.
The museum's collection includes more than 1 million 300 thousand exhibits. Every year the collection is enriched with new items that help broaden understanding of the life of St. Petersburg and St. Petersburg residents in different eras. Heirlooms and documents stored by residents, gifts of institutions and organizations make up a significant portion of new revenues. The museum’s specialists carefully and purposefully select unique or typical for their time things.
Over the past five years in the State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg were received 4520 subjects, 500 of them can be seen at the exhibition.
