The World History: The Unique Articles of the First World War Time from Private Collections are Exhibited in Moscow

24 April 2014

The exhibition of unique items from the First World War times from private collections opens on April 24, 2014, at the Russian Museum of Decorative, Applied and Folk Art in Moscow.

The exhibition lasted till our days "witnesses" of the legendary events: photographs, postcards, posters, phototypes and placads from private collections of S. A. Podstanitsky, A. E. Snopkov, M. Y. Chapkina, R. N. Nagapetyants and other collectors. Rare newsreel footage from the times of the First World War belonging to the Russian State Archive of Cinema and Photo Documents, captured fighting on the battlefields of the First World War, the Russian army everyday routine, the Emperor visiting in the Supreme Command, fundraising for the army needs will be screened during the exhibition. A special place in the exposition belongs to unusual and already incomprehensible for today’s audience the war loan posters (to raise funds for military purposes) and the amazing charity cards (to raise funds to help the needy); as well as a box for donations, which the nurses collected on behalf of the wounded. With these works the museum reconstructs the unique atmosphere of those years.

The part of presented exhibits and the newsreel plots keeping priceless historical information about the war were never shown to the public before.

The exhibition was made possible owing to the collaboration of the museum with private collectors, museum friends club and the museum's openness to diverse initiatives.
