History and culture: Exhibition of works of the X-XX centuries “Inextinguishable light…” in Kaliningrad

May 23, 2014 the Kaliningrad Art Gallery presents an exhibition of works of the X-XX centuries "Inextinguishable Light…" from the collections of the Tambov Regional Museum, the Morshansky History and Art Museum, the Local History Society of Tambov and private collections of M. Semenov and M. Nikolsky timed to the 700th anniversary of the birth of St. Sergius of Radonezh and the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture. The exhibition is also dedicated to the history of the Christianization of the Tambov region and the 100th anniversary of the canonization of Saint Pitirim Bishop of Tambov.

The exposition features more than 240 items, including: works of Russian iconography of the XVIII-XIX centuries, performed in various techniques and traditions, rare graphic sheets of Genesis and Apocalypse "Basil Koren Bible" in reprint by D. A. Rovinsky 1881, which is a bibliographic and museum rarity now. And images of revered saints of the Tambov land - St. Pitirim Wonderworker, St. Seraphim of Sarov, St. Luke Confessor Archbishop of Tambov.

The exhibition presents the works of contemporary and Tambov artist and iconographer Michael Nikolsky, continuing the tradition of Orthodox iconography share. A special spiritual attitude of the exhibition is original wooden sculpture monuments of Morshansk of the XVIII-XIX centuries, which are of exceptional historical and artistic and scientific interest. First are exhibited documents illustrating the history of Tambov diocese, liturgical manuscripts and old printed books.

A special section of the exhibition introduces the visitor to the objects of the Christian metal plastic of the X-XIX centuries from the vast collection "Tambov Society of Local History" and the private collection of Michael Semenov. A significant body of Russian Orthodox culture is wearable and altar crosses, holy pictures and folding with various iconographic scenes, filled with deep symbolic meaning.

The exhibition project "Inextinguishable light…" opens up new prospects of inter museum cooperation between regions and promotes cultural relations, promotion of historical and spiritual heritage of the Fatherland.
