History and culture: The general meeting of the Russian Historical Society took place in Moscow

May 19, 2014 at the Russian State University for the Humanities (Moscow) took place the general meeting of the Russian Historical Society.

In his speech, Chairman of the State Duma, Chairman of the Russian Historical Society Sergei Naryshkin summed up two years of the organization. According to him, during this time was held more than fifty exhibitions and "round tables", seminars and presentations. A range of activities was devoted to the 1150th anniversary of Slavic Writing and the 400th anniversary of the House of Romanov, the 200th anniversary of the Patriotic War and the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Leningrad from the blockade. Especially Sergei Naryshkin allocated the work on a concept for a new educational complex on the national history.

Chairman of the State Duma recalled that in January this year the concept was approved by the President of Russia, and were given instructions to the introduction into the educational process. "Now for the examination of textbooks themselves is created a corresponding commission. Its findings will be taken into account when forming the Federal list of textbooks", - continued Sergei Naryshkin.

Speaking about future plans of RIO, Chairman of the State Duma noted that in Russia and abroad is held events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the First World War. For this historical theme is organized a close cooperation with experts from other countries. In particular, were organized international "round tables" in Belgrade, Paris, and in Israel was established a representative office of the Russian Historical Society.

The importance of international cooperation was told by chairman of the Russian Historical Society Sergei Shahrai. According to him, along with the interaction with Finland and Germany, the Russian Historical Society is established cooperation with Chinese historians. He also noted that the website RIO gained popularity, which has increased several times during the discussion of the concept of the new educational complex in history.

Director of the Institute of World History Alexander Chubaryan said that the lines of history textbooks are being prepared. "By working on a new history textbook will be attracted the best groups of authors, including young professionals", - said the Minister of Education of Russia Dmitry Livanov. He also added that he was already preparing a series of guidelines for teachers of history, developed new qualification programs for teachers, and making changes to the program for the students of history of universities.

Open lessons of history, devoted to the First World War, were proposed to be held in Russian schools by the Minister of Culture of Russia Vladimir Medinsky.

Academician Valery Tishkov proposed to hold regular congresses of historians, as well as to create a professional association of historians. This idea was supported by Sergei Naryshkin.

President of the Russian Book Union Sergei Stepashin offered to send professional historians in the Crimea and Sevastopol.

Traditionally a part of the General Meeting was devoted to discussion of a certain historical period. At this time, Sergei Naryshkin proposed theme of "historical phenomenon "thaw".
