Russian museums: Scientific conference “Kremlin monasteries in the history of Russian culture” in Moscow
May 20, 2014 the Museum-Reserve “Moscow Kremlin” hosts the Scientific conference “Kremlin monasteries in the history and culture of Russia”.
Over the centuries-old history of the Moscow Kremlin on its territory there were several monasteries and monastic farmsteads. Of particular interest is the story of two monasteries Kremlin – the Chudovo and the Ascension monasteries, which are among the most ancient monasteries in Moscow. Their bases were major figures of statesmen: Metropolitan Alexy of Moscow and Grand Princess Eudocia (in monasticism Euphrosyne), wife of Dmitry Donskoy.
The history of Kremlin monasteries is inextricably linked with the history of Moscow and the Kremlin. The Chudovo Monastery was run by the All-Russia Moscow metropolitans and patriarchs; Voznesenski was the burial place of the great queens and princesses. For many centuries, the most valuable set of relics and precious works of art were collected in monastic churches and vestries. Chudov and Voznesenski monasteries have not survived to our time, destroyed in 1929 to build in their place of a military school; they became one of the most tragic losses of the Moscow Kremlin in the XX century. Salvation relics and treasures of the Kremlin monasteries were a real feat of museum professionals in 1929, and today the preservation and study of the heritage mansions of Kremlin - one of the most important scientific activities of the Moscow Kremlin.
