10 May 2014

The exhibition "Collection of V. N. Argutinsky-Dolgorukov in the State Museum of St. Petersburg" will be open on November 25, 2014 in the Peter and Paul Fortress (St. Petersburg).

2014 marks the 140th anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Nikolaevich Argutinsky-Dolgorukov (1874-1941) - a prominent St. Petersburg collector and connoisseur. For ten years he was the vice-chairman of the board of the Museum of Old Petersburg - the predecessor of the State Museum of History of St. Petersburg. From 1909 to 1920 as a gift from a collector the museum received about 600 items: drawings of leading Petersburg architects of the XVIII - first half of XIX century, paintings, watercolors and drawings with views of the capital, more than 200 etchings and lithographs, plans of Petersburg in different times. In fact, these exhibits were the core of the museum's collection in the first decade of its existence.

Many items from the collection of V. N. Argutinsky-Dolgorukov often exhibited, but the collection has never been demonstrated fully. The exhibition in the Peter and Paul Fortress will for the first time present the entire collection.
