World history and culture: Traveling exhibition “Argonauts of the Middle Ages” in Staraya Ladoga

The Museum-Reserve "Staraya Ladoga" (the Leningrad region) hosts the traveling exhibition "Argonauts of the Middle Ages". This traveling exhibition, which in a simple and funny way tells the story of the Vikings, who came from the territory of modern Denmark, Sweden and Norway, having a significant influence on the development of Europe. Including ancient Russia, at the end of the I - the beginning of the II millennium BC the Baltic Sea was a major binder northern cultural world, strikingly reminiscent of the Mediterranean at the dawn of antiquity, so it is no exaggeration to compare the Scandinavian seafarers with Argonauts of the antiquity.

As part of the exhibition visitors will learn about the culture of Vikings, burial rites and associated with them religious beliefs.

The Viking military equipment, details of traditional Scandinavian costume, especially shipbuilding material are presented on archaeological finds from the collections of museums in Russia, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Russian and foreign clubs have provided their historical reconstruction materials for decoration of information materials. The exhibition format means that in each region receiving the exhibition it can be supplemented with authentic archaeological artifacts - evidence of the material culture of the Vikings.
