Internet and history: The presentation of the Internet-resource “Life of St. Sergius of Radonezh – autograph of Pachomius Logothetes” in Saint-Petersburg
June 4, 2014 in the Exhibition hall of the Department of Manuscripts of the National Library of Russia (Saint-Petersburg) is held the presentation of the Internet-resource “The Life of St. Sergius of Radonezh” – autograph of Pachomius Logothetes” and the opening of the unique exhibition “The Light of the Russian land”.
In Rus’ people revered the memory of the honored and his “Life” was re-written and read, that is why hundreds of his lists preserved. But of special interest is the manuscript which is at the origins of the traditions – autograph of the famous master of hagiography, a skilled stylist Pachomius Logothetes.
The Internet-resource offers readers access to this most vibrant and authoritative list of Life, which is a monument of writing, a part of the golden fund of cultural and historical heritage of Russia. Only at the opening of the exhibition will be presented the script – “The Life of St. Sergius of Radonezh” ( 40 -50th, the XV c.).
The presentation is complemented with the exhibition "The Light of the Russian Land". These are 40 facsimiles of fragments Illuminated Chronicle, donated to the project by Director General of "Publishing house "Acteon" Kh. Kh. Mustafin.
Material for the exposition were key monuments of old Russian literature devoted to St. Sergius of Radonezh, news and miniatures Illuminated Chronicle - illustrated historical encyclopedia of ancient Russia. Comprehensive exhibition project is done by the National Library OF Russia in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation "On the celebration of the 700th anniversary of the birth of St. Sergius of Radonezh".
The exhibition in the NLR most fully reveals the image of St. Sergius of Radonezh as one of the clearest exponents of Russian ideal of holiness, the surprising combination of monastic austerity and public service, and of communal monastic seclusion dispensation, mysticism and politics, disdain for material possessions and concerns about public sector monastery.
The exhibition will run until September 10.
