History of Russia: The exhibition “Military roads of the Tolstoy family. 1914-1917” in Moscow
August 28, 2014 the State Leo Tolstoy Museum (Moscow) hosts the exhibition “Military roads of the family of Tolstoy. 1914-1917”, timed to the First World War Centenary and the 130th anniversary of the Alexandra Lvovna Tolstaya.
The exhibition presents unique documents and photographs depicting the participation of the Tolstoy family in the First World War. Children and grandchildren of Leo Tolstoy, by the end of life of a staunch pacifist, could not stay away from the terrible events and went to the front. The youngest daughter of the writer Alexander became a nurse, sons Michael and Elijah, grandson Andrew and nephews were directly involved in military battles.
Significant exhibits of the exhibition are letters from the front, addressed to the wife of the writer S. A. Tolstaya, daughter of T. L. Sukhotina-Tolstoy and other family members. And in a hundred years, they felt terrible breath of war. The exhibition also presents the newspapers and magazines of 1914-1917.
