History and culture: Unique photographs presented at the exhibition in the I. S. Turgenev Museum-Reserve “Spasskoe-Lutovinovo”
August 29, 2014 in the exhibition hall of the I. S. Turgenev Museum-Reserve "Spasskoe-Lutovinovo" (Orel) is opened the exhibition "My address: the Orel province, the city of Mtsensk…".
At the exhibition visitors will be able to see about 100 photographs, professional and amateur, made in the period from the 1850s to the 1920s in a variety of genres – species photo, interior, landscape, home; species of the Spasskoe-Lutovinovo made in September 1883 by G. G. Karic, amateur photographs of life on the estates of the Orel region of the XIX-XX centuries, pictures of cities and places of the province of Orel, related to the life and work of the writer. First the Museum-Reserve presents its collection of 15 species of the old Orel, made in 1863 by the Orel photographer Edward Schlessing.
The visitors will be presented portraits of guests of the Spasskoe – N. A. Nekrasov, A. A. Fet and M. P. Botkin, M. G. Savina, Yasnaya Polyana photos of Leo Tolstoy; portraits of individuals and the related manor environment writer, his younger contemporaries, people from different walks of life: the representatives of the royal family and the clergy, merchants and peasants made not only by the acknowledged masters of photography in Moscow and St. Petersburg, but also photographers of Orel, Tula, Voronezh, Vitebsk, Grodno, Kislovodsk, Warsaw, Berlin, Paris.
The exhibition will feature personal belongings of I. S. Turgenev as well as diaries, notebooks and other documents of people of the writer’s inner circle
