Book publishing and book distribution: The Forum of Chinese and Russian writers to become the main event at the XXI Beijing Book Fair

Works by Russian authors are widely presented at the opened on August 27, 2014 the XXI Beijing International Book Fair. 

On the stand of the area of over 70 square meters which is implemented in colors of the Russian national flag, are housed novelties of Russian book publishing: new editions of Russian classics and works by contemporary Russian authors, literature of the humanitarian themes and products for children and youth. A separate stand will present works published as part of the publishing program of the Government of Moscow. The stand provides a platform for the author's meetings with writers and presentations. Large plasma screen shows the program of activities for the day, biographies of authors participating in the activities, educational documentaries about Russia.

This year the Beijing Book Fair welcomes publishers from Siberia and Far East. Their publishing programs will present the Far Eastern publishing house “Rubezh” (Vladivostok), the publishing house “Amur Vedomosti” (Khabarovsk) and the publishing house “Bichik” from Yakutia. The presentations of new books, released with the support of the Government of Moscow, will be also held.

But the main event will be a forum of Chinese and Russian writers, which will be held on August 28 and 29 on the territory of the fair. Forum is an initiative of the Vice-Chairman of the Union of Chinese Writers Ho Tszyanmin and Deputy Head of the Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communications Vladimir Grigoriev. They will participate in the opening ceremony of the Forum. Well-known Chinese and Russian writers will be able to share their thoughts on important topics such as the social potential of contemporary literature, the fate of the national novel in the age of globalization, the search for national and moral roots in the modern literature, the problem of young, cultural interaction between different civilizations and raise environmental awareness on the literary material. The Forum includes plenary lectures followed by discussions and round tables. The evening with the participation of Russian writers will be held in the Russian center of science and culture.
