World history: The exhibition “The Great Patriotic War in the Arctic” opened during the V International Forum “For the Glory of the Navy and the Fatherland!” in Arkhangelsk
The exhibition "The Great Patriotic War in the Arctic" was opened in the North Sea Museum (Arkhangelsk) during the V International Forum "For the glory of the Navy and the Fatherland!".
According to the director of the North Sea Museum Ruslan Bodnaruk, it gives start of a series of events dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the first convoy in Arkhangelsk "Dervish".
The exhibition marks the 70th anniversary of the Petsamo-Kirkenes operation of troops of the Karelian Front and the Northern Fleet against the German fascist troops in the north of Finland and Norway, which became an important stage in the final defeat of Nazi Germany, allowed liberating Norway from Nazi occupation.
Part of the exposition is devoted to the formation of the coalition, the sailors of the USSR, the USA and the UK participated in the northern convoys. The conclusion of the Lend-Lease Act has greatly improved the material supply of the Red Army.
Separate sections of the exhibition tell about a submarine war and Solovetskaya school of sea boys.
A particular attention is paid to the heroism of the crew of the steamer "Siberians". Entering into an unequal battle with the German heavy cruiser "Admiral Scheer", sailors warned about the presence of a cruiser in the Arctic waters and the thwarted German operation "Wonderland".
The display cases are also presented uniforms and weapons of the Red Army and Navy. Much of the exhibits are transferred by veterans to the museum of the Great Patriotic War.
