Information technology and archives: Electronic copies of archival documents in high resolution created in the Archive of Contemporary History of the Kostroma region

The State Archive of Contemporary History of the Kostroma region will provide users with electronic copies of archival documents in high resolution. 

The institution is working on the creation of the insurance fund of documents with the help of microfilming technique, and now the institution acquired a complex of planetary scanning ELAR PlanScan A2B. 

According to the deputy director of the archive on the main activities of Elena Filippova, new equipment will create copies of the documents on a fundamentally different level. This activity aims to provide archivists with a possibility of repeated release of information and its copy without reference to the originals. In the future, digitization will enable citizens to gain access to the most valuable archival documents held in the State archive of contemporary history of the Kostroma region, including through the Internet.

Archivists will independently transfer into electronic inventory of cases and high-value documents - materials of local party and Komsomol organizations for 1918-1991. On the new scanner bound documents will be digitized in high quality without compromising even dilapidated originals.
