History and culture: The exhibition “The Great Duke Paul Petrovich” in Saint-Petersburg
December 24, 2014 in the Mikhailovsky Castle (the State Russian Museum, Saint-Petersburg) is opened the exhibition “The Great Duke Paul Petrovich”.
The exhibition is dedicated to children’s and youth years of the future emperor Paul I. It is implemented in the premises of the Mikhailovsky Castle – the favorite child of emperor, where he was killed by conspirators in the night from 11-12 March, 1801.
The materials are associated with the biography of the Grand Duke, first collected in a special exhibition, which is conceived as part of a large-scale project “The Saga of the Romanovs”, developed by the State Russian Museum in 2014. The exhibition presents paintings - portraits of Paul Petrovich and his family members, genre paintings and allegorical narrative content, telling about the events in the life of the Grand Duke, and graphic works, miniatures, decorative and applied art and elements of everyday life of the period from the State Russian Museum and other collections. These materials allow volumetric and multifaceted reveal the theme of the exhibition, also give the viewer the opportunity to review many preconceived evaluation, still prevalent in the identity of the Grand Duke.
