International Events: "The Arctic: Present and Future" IV International Forum in St. Petersburg
"The Arctic: Present and Future" IV International Forum will be held in St. Petersburg, on December 10-11, 2014.
The state policy in the field of sustainable development and socio-economic development of regions of Arctic zone of Russia became the main themes of the Forum. Suggested by the Association of Polar Explorers mechanisms of interaction between government, business and the public will be featured during the event.
Over 600 delegates from 30 regions of Russia and the foreign countries attended international forum.
President of the Association of Polar Explorers, First Vice President of the Russian Geographical Society Artur Chilingarov opened the plenary session on state policy aimed at sustainable development of the Arctic zone. According to him, the Association of Polar Explorers should improve the efficiency of their work and to reach a new qualitative level. "We are, first and foremost, talking about the active advancement of the national Arctic idea into public consciousness and the political, industrial and business clusters of the country. This is a notion that Russia's future is inextricably linked with the development and coping with its Arctic zone, and that the majority of the responsive society, regardless the place of their residence, must be in one form or another involved into implementation of Arctic idea", - said Chilingarov.
The main outcome of the Forum will be a resolution with suggestions and recommendations that will be forwarded to the authorities of the Russian Federation for the improvement of legislation and government regulation in the field of sustainable development in the Arctic.
