History of Russia: The exhibition of lithographs of fortresses of North-West Russia 1830-1840s “Guarding the Fatherland” in Izborsk

The State Historical-Architectural Natural Landscape Museum-Reserve "Izborsk" (the Pskov region) hosts the exhibition of lithographs "Guarding the Fatherland". The exhibition presents lithographs by Ivan Seleznev from the Museum-Preserve "Tsarskoye Selo" (St. Petersburg).

To illustrate the statistical report of Russia 1830-1840s by order of Emperor Nicholas I a topographer artist I. I. Seleznev sang beautiful lithographs depicting the ancient fortress in the romantic blue and white scheme and at the same time testify that Russian military engineering architecture of antiquity fully meet the requirements of contemporary science of fortification and practical problems of defense.

Furthermore, in the beginning of the XIX century the Fortress North-West of Russia is of great interest in architectural and artistic point of view, because in the heart of being an important city-forming unit.

A legacy from our ancestors, defending fortresses in Pskov, Novgorod, Ivangorod, Izborsk, Pechory, Gdov, Porkhov, has a tremendous value today.
