19 February 2015

The joint project of the Russian Military-Historical Society and the publishing house “Komsomolskaya Pravda” on February 18, 2015 was presented to the public and the media. The presentation was attended by Chairman of the Military-Historical Society, the Minister of Culture of Russia Vladimir Medinsky, the chief editor of “Komsomolskaya Pravda” Vladimir Sungorkin and editor in chief of TV channel “Russia 2” Igor Shestakov, scientific director of the Russian Military-Historical Society Mikhail Myagkov.

The 20-volume edition “Great Military Leaders of Russia” was a continuation of the joint project of the Russian Military-Historical Society and the VGTRK “Name of Victory”. Since November 4, 2013 up to May 9, 2014 amateurs and connoisseurs of military history together with historians put forward a list of 100 great military leaders – commanders of Russia. The winner of the project on the basis of the popular vote was a prominent Russian General Alexander Vasilievich Suvorov.

The names of military strategic operations of 1943-1944 were the names of prominent commanders – “Bagration”, “The commander Kutuzov”, “Rumyantsev”. During the Great Patriotic War the awards were established in honor of Alexander Nevsky and Alexander Suvorov, Mikhail Kutuzov and Pavel Nakhimov. There were created personalized military columns “Tank column of Dmitry Donskoy”, the aircraft squadron “Alexander Nevsky”. The first monuments to the events of the Great Patriotic War – are the monuments to great generals.

- It is very timely that the Russian Military-Historical Society remembers the names of our great generals, implemented jointly with the VGTRK, the project “Name of Victory”, - said Vladimir Medinsky. - This idea found its continuation in a joint project with the “Komsomolskaya Pravda”, during which to the Victory Day will be published 20 volumes of books on military leaders - from antiquity, the legendary Prince Oleg, and ending with a separate volume dedicated to Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov.
