History and culture: The exposition, dedicated to the main stages of the telephone era in Astrakhan
In Astrakhan, in the City History Museum was opened an exhibition devoted to the main stages of the telephone era. It presents rare phones, headsets telephone operators, reference numbers, brochures, leaflets and other items from the collections of the Astrakhan Museum.
At all times people are looking for ways to transmit information over long distances and it is desired as quickly as possible. It is known, for example, that in ancient Greece there were existed acoustic and rope phones. These devices are allowed to communicate with each other between neighbors without leaving home.
An intensive development of telephony began in the second half of the XIX century. In Astrakhan, the first telephones appeared almost simultaneously with the telegraph, connected cities and Tsaritsyn. In 1884 Branobel passed the cable that connected the city office of the enterprise to the plant on outposts. Then it appeared the telephone line from the house of the governor to the police department.
