The Presidential Library: New acquisitions

The Presidential Library collection has been enriched with materials from the M. Y. Lermontov Penza Regional Library.

Presented books published in the city of Penza in wartime, and modern editions are devoted to the history and culture of Penza.

- Wartime publications

During the Great Patriotic War its activity was continued by editorial, publishing and printing houses of the Penza newspaper "Stalin's banner". As part of the series "Library of agitators and propagandists" were published works of military subjects, scientific and educational nature.

Documents of the patriotic movement of workers of the Penza region to raise funds for the construction of airplanes and tanks for the Red Army are collected in the publication To You, Front! Collection 1 (Penza, 1943).

The report of I. V. Stalin dedicated to the XXIV anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution (Penza, 1941) refers to the course of military operations for the first 4 months of the war of 1941-1945., The failure of "blitzkrieg" on the causes of the failures of our time armies and further tasks of the Soviet state. In the publication is also available the speech of Chairman of the State Defense Committee and People's Commissar of Defence Comrade Stalin's Red Army on parade November 7, 1941 on Red Square in Moscow. The report of the 26th anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution (Penza, 1943), Stalin summed up the past in 1943, the year of radical change in the course of the Great Patriotic War. The report states nationwide assistance to the front, to strengthen the anti-Hitler coalition and the collapse of the fascist block.

Written by correspondent of the newspaper "Pravda" and "Izvestia" F. V. Gladkov during his visit in the Urals the essay Fighter Nazar Suslov: (records of the wounded political leader) (Penza, 1943) tells of the struggle against the enemies.

To the victory of our troops near Moscow in 1942 is devoted Ballad of Moscow by T. A. Tvardovsky (Penza, 1942). The basis is the legend, recorded from the words of the peasants of the village Chernava, the Kursk region.

Military tale Overcome Barmaley! (Penza, 1943) was written by K. I. Chukovsky in 1942, when the author was evacuated to Tashkent. Tale is a chronicle of military confrontation "small country Dr. Aybolit" and "ferocious animal kingdom". Chukovsky was assembled a new language material - new words, terms, clichés passing of the Soviet Information Bureau reports directly to the child's speech. Work was first published in the "Pioneer truth" in 1942, excerpts were published in "Truth of the East". In 1943, the tale was released as a separate edition in Yerevan, Tashkent, in Penza. In the same year, the tale has been banned and reprinted more than 50 years.

The Book by D. D. Blagoy Alexander Nikolayevich Radishchev (Penza, 1945) is devoted to the life and work of a writer, thinker and the founder of revolutionary thought. Discussed in detail works of Radishchev famous work "Journey from St. Petersburg to Moscow".

The book Conversations on natural science topics (Penza, 1945) includes a collection of articles by various authors on the following topics: the origin of life on earth, unusual celestial phenomena, the earth and the universe, science and superstition, whether the beginning and end of the world will happen.

To nuclear physics is dedicated a brochure by Soviet experimental physicist, academician A. I. Alikhanov Atomic nucleus and its energy (Penza, 1945).

-Modern editions

"History of Penza streets" (Penza, 2012) by A. I. Dvorzhansky Book. 1: the Trinity Street is the first edition, dedicated to the history of the city of Penza estates, located at the street Trinity (Kirov); given the opportunity to obtain detailed information about each section of the street since the founding of Penza to the present day. The book is written on the basis of archival research, with extensive use of illustrative material and memoirs sources.

In the photo album by J. S. Shishikin "Penza. Leafing through an old album…" are collected pictures of different historical periods. Here you can see Penza and its inhabitants before the revolution (the second half of XIX - early XX centuries.), in the first quarter of the XX century, during the Great Patriotic War and the postwar period. The purpose of the author is to show not only the city, its streets and squares at different times, but the people living in it. There were used photos from the State Archives of the Penza region, the Penza State Museum of Local Lore, from personal archives and collections. Most of the selected images have never been published. In the photos of the 1860-1910s (Penza, 2012) known as (Vakulenko, Waldman, Zilli) and to a greater extent unknown photographers was captured last provincial city and its inhabitants in different moments of life: during holidays and celebrations, tuition and work. Photos of 1900s - 1920s (Penza, 2013) recreate the look of an ancient Russian city of Penza in the difficult period of the first quarter of XX century. At this time occurred the Russian-Japanese, First World and the Civil War, revolution and rebellion three Legionnaires Czechoslovak Corps. In the photos of the 1940s-1960s (Moscow, 2012) depicts Penza city life of the postwar period: the demolition of the old quarters and improvement of streets and squares, major events and sports competitions.

In the photo album of amateur local historian, collector and theater-goer I. S. Shishkin The Penza theater yesterday and today: a view from the auditorium (Penza, 2011) is presented a richly illustrated history of theater Penza from the XVIII century. The basis of the album was the collection of pictures of actors and photographers by Vladimir Kuskov and Eugene Larin, amateur of theatrical art Mikhail Nosov.

Biographical dictionary in 3 volumes by A. V. Tyustin and I. S. Shishkin "Glory of Penza Multiply" (Penza, 2012-2013) Volume 1: [A-L], V. 2: [M-T], V. 3: [U-Y] contains brief biographical information about the people who glorified their native town. The publication presents the Olympic champions, politicians and managers recognized in the country, scientists, artists, film makers, educators, writers, diplomats, travelers, Heroes of the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation, Heroes of Socialist Labor, the Cavaliers of St. George and the Knights of the Order of Glory – total 1151 people. Dictionary contains portraits.
