Information technology and museums: The hall of the Uffizi Gallery presented in 3D

In late 2014 the Uffizi Gallery (Florence, Italy) presented to the public a new multimedia installation, which allows visitors to see the closed hall for visiting “Tribune” in detail.

A new multimedia installation allows not only see the interior of the closed for visiting gallery (“Tribune” is fixed and today you can only look through the side doors), but also to get additional information (in English and Italian) about the room and surroundings, as well as about each of the presented works of art. The work on the project took 6 months and included 3D-scanning and modeling using the latest digital tools of 13 sculptures and “shoot” of the internal gallery space by laser scanner. Previously, the team presented Galleria degli Uffizi presented online-portal dedicated to the “Tribune”, which presents the most complete information about the works of art represented in this room, and the history of the hall, which is an architectural monument.
