
Anniversaries of Russia: "Governor K. K. Grotto" traveling exhibition to the 200th anniversary of his birth in the Samara Region
The presentation of "The Governor K. Grotto" traveling exhibition for the 200th anniversary of his birth was held on January 30, 2015, in Samara Regional History Museum named after P. V. Alabin.
K. K. Groth (1815-1897) is an outstanding statesman and a philanthropist of the Russian Empire. In the entire galaxy of Samara’s Governors Konstantin Karlovich, who was caught in Samara in complex turning-point period in the history of the country and the region, has taken a special place. Thanks to his efforts, the former county town stood in a number of Russian provincial centers.
Presented at the museum exhibition materials from the museum’s collections, from Samara Regional Universal Scientific Library and the Central State Archive of the Samara Region introduce the high spots of Groth’s life and doings, a history of Groths’ kin, familiarize with Konstantin Karlovich’s associates and his ambiance. Groth was a representative of one of the most enlightened families in Russia, so he had taken an active part in the opening of the male gymnasium, seminary, female school, theater, library and a military hospital in Samara. He has repeatedly donated books to the Samara Public Library. K. K. Groth has replenished with books and documents the collections of, belonging to the Public Library of Samara, Public Museum and Hall of Emperor Alexander II, which were later inherited by the Samara Regional History Museum named after P. V. Alabin.
In 2015, the exhibition will continue its work in schools, libraries and municipal museums in the Samara Region.
