History and culture: Icons and works of the media plastic from the Andrei Rublev Museum collection at the exhibition in Tomsk

26 March 2015

March 25, 2015 in the Tomsk Regional Art Museum was opened the exhibition of images of Russian saints of the XVI – early XX century from the collection of the Andrei Rublev Museum (Moscow) “Saints of the Russian land…”.

Visitors can see 55 works of art of the XVI – early XX century, among which are icons, works of media plastic and wooden carving, dedicated to images of Saints.

The exposition consists of two sections. The first of them is dedicated to the images of ancient Russian Saints (Boris and Gleb, Saint Stefan of Perm, Saint Alexander Svirsky and others). The second section features images of saints, celebrated in modern times (among them are Saints Mitrophan of Voronezh, Innokenty of Irkutsk, Dimitry of Rostov, Saint Serafim of Sarov).

In a peculiar manner the letters of these icons are combined with traditions of ancient icon painting and the academic painting of the XIX century.

The exhibition will run until April 26.
