History of Russia: The exhibition “Prisoners of War in Stalingrad” in Yelabuga

March 23, 2015 with the support of the Volgograd Regional Department of the Russian Military-Historical Society in the Yelabuga State Historical and Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve is opened the exhibition “Prisoners of War in Stalingrad”. 

The exhibition gives an idea of how people live, what soldiers of officers contributed to the restoration of the ruined city.

The labor of prisoners of war was used for the reconstruction of the destroyed Stalingrad. From 1943 till 1953 they were involved in the construction, repair and restoration of a number of industrial plants, hospitals, schools, residential buildings and cultural institutions of the city.

A separate section of the exhibition is dedicated to prisoners of war with the locals. Indeed, despite the immense suffering and sacrifice that brought war to our people, the attitude towards the defeated enemy civilian population of Stalingrad was quite humane and loyal.

Visitors will be able to see documents, personal belongings, clothing of prisoners of war, as well as numerous photographs depicting various aspects of their life and work in Stalingrad.

When creating the exhibition were used materials of the funds of the Museum-Reserve "Battle of Stalingrad" and private collections.

The exhibition in Yelabuga will run until April 26.
