Information technology and society: The electronic identity card of the citizen of Russia – “e-passport” is presented
Minister of Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation Nikolai Nikiforov together with the head of the Federal Migration Service (FMS) Konstantin Romodanovsky presented to the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev the electronic identity card of the citizen of Russia ("e-passport") and demonstrated the process of its application in information and telecommunication environment. The event was held within the framework of the working visit of the Government of Russia in the Crimean Federal District.
The Chairman of the Government was shown several areas of application of e-passports in different situations: for both public and commercial services. E-passport can be used on the portal of public services, to receive public services through the so-called infomat, the border points with access control without human intervention.
"The main difference between the new generation of passports from the traditional paper document - the presence of a qualified electronic signature, which will make legal actions between citizens in electronic form", - said Nikolai Nikiforov.
FMS of Russia, the Ministry of Communications and Media of Russia and Goznak are technically ready to launch this project, which is currently being corrected the legal framework.
It is expected that the issuance of the e-passport in the first few years will be carried out at the request of citizens of Russia.
