Information technology and museums: The Lodejnoje Polje History Museum’s collection of periodicals got digitized
ELAR Corporation has digitized archival issues of the regional newspaper of Lodejnoje Polje municipal formation of Leningrad Region for the funds of the local between settlements library.
Among digitized items are the publications from the collection of the Lodejnoje Polje History Museum — 16 annual filings of “Lenin's Pravda” (“Pravda” means “truth”) newspaper of 1945-1962 years with total 7,048 pages. The publications were digitized on a planetary scanner ELAR PlanScan C2 on none-contact basis, in such a way the possibility of mechanical and lighting effects damage of the shabby originals was excluded. After scanning, text of the documents was automatically recognized and PDF-books were built with text substrate letting contextual search. An array of digitized publications has been handed to the client on DVD-R disks.
The newspaper of Lodejnoje Polje Region is out since 1919. It received the name "Lenin's Pravda" in 1930, and in 1990 the publication was renamed to "Lodejnoje Polje." The originals of the paper are in the Lodejnoje Polje Historical Museum, and their digitized copies will now be presented in the local library, a common fund of which totals 34,000 books and periodicals.
