15 July 2015

July 10 in the museum-panorama “The Battle of Borodino” opened the exhibition “Legends of the era of the Patriotic War 1812”.

Celebrating the 200th anniversary of Russia's victory in the Patriotic War of 1812 has confirmed that the events and heroes of that era have become part of the historical memory of the Russians, making them an integral part of the national consciousness. The exhibition invites you to recall the major themes of the Patriotic War of 1812, around which for two centuries there have been myths, over time becoming a legend.

Wounding of Commander M. I. Kutuzov, the causes of fire in Moscow, the circumstances of the death of the renowned Russian general P. I. Bagration, feats of Russian peasant guerrilla detachments by Davydov and fearless "Tufts-chieftain" Platov – it is just part of the "extraordinary" evidence of the era of 1812, which involves a lot of legends, fantasies and legends. Today, once again it is proved to be an actual theme of conflict between civilizations, when people are aware of the military events took place as a confrontation between the Orthodox, aristocratic-monarchist Russia and the "godless" France.

The exhibition presents documents and book editions from the Museum-panorama "The Battle of Borodino" that help to reveal the true events of "storm of the Twelfth year". The theme of the Napoleonic wars attracted attention of many battle painters. The works of fine and decorative arts along with documentary sources form our ideas about heroes and memorable battles in 1812.

The exhibition will run until September 6.
