Information technology and museums: The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts digitized accounting books
The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts (Moscow) completed the first phase of the project on the digitization of accounting books and filling an electronic depository.
The project is aimed at improving the processes of registration and preservation of museum collections of one of the major museums in the world. Collection of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts has about 700 thousand exhibits - works of art from ancient times to the present day. All information about the individual items and groups of items, the order of their admission to the museum and the various departments is in the books of receipt and inventory books of the main and special funds of the Pushkin Museum.
Specialists of the “Electronic Archive” Corporation scanned about 500 of accounting books, dating from 2006-2014, and conducted a systematic analysis of electronic images of documents transferred into electronic form before.
Until the end of 2015 digital images of accounting books will add an electronic digital depository of the Pushkin Museum, integrated with museum accounting system. In addition, the information contained in the inventory books, collections of prints and drawing of funds, coins, art, European and American countries, Eastern Division, Department of Antiquities, personal collections, will be supplemented by the official portal of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts and satellite sites. Thus, the digitization project of accounting books of the museum will not only improve the processes of accounting, storage, research and systematization of museum objects, but also enhance the ability of representing a collection of the State Pushkin Museum in the Internet.
