Russian culture abroad: XVIII Festival of Russian Art in Cannes
In the last days of August, for the eighteenth consecutive year the Russian Art Festival will traditionally be featured on the French Riviera in Cannes. This year's festival takes place from 23rd to 27th of August.
Within an opening ceremony the State Academic, Awarded with Order of Peoples’ Friendship, Alan dance ensemble from the Republic of North Ossetia - Alania - will appear on the stage of Debussy Theatre of Festival Palace. And at the closing gala - the artists of the New Ballet Moscow State Music Theatre will present their new show entitled “Fortuna vis Lucem”, staged by one of the prominent European choreographers Francesco Ventrili.
In honor of the 70th anniversary of victory in World War II a unique exhibition dedicated to the joint struggle of Russian and French with their mutual enemy - fascism - is prepared. The "Russian and French in World War II. Brotherhood in Arms" installation will include exhibits from the collections of the State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia and private collections of Dmitry Bushmakov.
As conventional capital of world cinema, Cannes cannot stand aside the big screen releases. Produced in different years by Mosfilm studios movies will be screened on traditional Cinema Day: under the “Recovered Masterpieces” heading viewers will see the legendary pieces of Sergei Eisenstein and Andrei Mikhalkov-Konchalovsky.
On August 25 spectators will see a performance of "Skazka" Khakassia national puppet theater.
On August 26 the historic Domergue Villa, one of the most beautiful architectural monuments of the French Riviera, will open its doors for the soloists of the Mariinsky Theatre’s Academy of Young Singers.
The central event of the festival will be the "Russian Night" gala evening, famed for many years for its honorable guests.
