Museums of Russia: Interactive museum complex “Buran” opened at the VDNH in Moscow
August 15, 2015 at VDNH, Moscow, an interactive museum opened inside the layout of an orbiter "Buran BTS-001" next to the pavilion №20. The museum not only proposes to watch a film about the legendary rocket plane, but also to "pilot" its landing at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in real time.
The tour begins with the demonstration of the film, which tells the history of the Soviet space shuttle. Then the visitors are welcomed inside the "Buran" layout. Experienced guides will tell about the features of its design, show the differences between the spaceship and the US space shuttle. All the details can be seen on the big screens.
And the most important part of the tour will be a visit to the bow of the space ship and its command cabin. There is a dashboard, and even an astronaut. His role is performed by a dummy in a real spacesuit. Using a computer program the visitors will be able to land "Buran" at the Baikonur Cosmodrome from the altitude of eighty thousand meters.
"Buran" made its first and only flight into space in the late eighties. After a decade and a half, this copy was destroyed in the collapse of the roof of the building where it was kept all these years.
The model had long stayed in Gorky Park, demanded by no one and practically abandoned. After the beginning of a large-scale reconstruction, it was transferred to VDNH. Now, its history begins a new stage.
