Society and culture: Unique exhibits of the XV-XVII century returned to the Pskov Museum-Reserve after restoration
In the Pskov region after the restoration were returned unique icons of the XV-XVII centuries. The presentation of updated images is held on August 12, 2015 in the Pskov State United Historical, Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve.
Specialists of the All-Russian artistic restoration center of Academician Igor Grabar (Moscow) cleared and removed the dirt, restored icons strengthen lost or faded paint layers, and in some cases have completely changed the look and the story of the icon.
This happened with the image of St. John the Baptist with Life 16 stamps (subject compositions around the center of the image). The icon was found in Opochka, restorers uncovered by the upper layers of the later entries.
"When the icon was admitted to the restoration center of the Pskov museum-reserve, it was called "Christmas" and dated XIX century. After X-rays it was proved that there was a late entry earlier icon of John the Baptist", - said the chief curator of the funds of the Pskov museum-reserve Maria Protsenko.
The origin of the other two icons - "Christ on the throne" (XVI century) and "The Assumption of the Virgin" (the end of the XV - beginning of the XVI century) - was not established, the experts intend to continue their study.
