History and culture: Rare portraits of Russian composers of the XIX-XX centuries are presented at the exhibition in Moscow on the International Music Day

The Museum "P. I. Tchaikovsky and Moscow" on October 1, 2015 opens the exhibition "In the presence of the author", which shows rare portraits of Russian composers of the XIX-XX centuries. The authors of the works - the famous artists, including Ivan Kramskoy, Vasily Perov, Boris Chaliapin, Adrian Volkov, Michael Steiner, Leah (Lydia) Ostrova, Peter Williams, Mikhail Sokolov.

The exhibits from the collections of the All-Russian Museum Association of musical culture of M. I. Glinka are composers in unusual "role". Prominent Russian writers act as a source of inspiration for the famous Russian artists.

Portraits of Composers, gathered in one exhibition, show musical panorama of Russia of the XIX-XX centuries. On the canvases are depicted M. I. Glinka, A. S. Dargomyzhsky, A. G. and N. G. Rubinstein, P. I. Tchaikovsky, S. V. Rachmaninoff, N. K. Medtner, S. S. Prokofiev and D. D. Shostakovich. Most of the works is unknown to wider audience.

A valuable complement of the gallery of portraits will be manuscripts of Trio "Memory of a Great Artist" (dedicated to N. G. Rubinstein) P. I. Tchaikovsky and "Elegiac Trio" (in memory of Tchaikovsky), S. V. Rachmaninoff and other notes.

The exhibition will run until December 13, 2015.
