History and Russia: The exhibition “By Roads of Glory and Victory” in the “Gatchina” Museum-Reserve

November 27, 2015 in the “Gatchina” Museum-Reserve is opened the exhibition “By Roads of Glory and Victory”.

The exhibition is timed to the 285th anniversary of the creation of the Horse Guards and is organized by the “Gatchina” Museum-Reserve together with the Suvorov State Memorial Museum and the Novgorod Museum-Reserve. The temporary exposition is dedicated to the history of the Guards regiments of Russian cavalry, and includes more than two hundred items and covers the period from the second third of the XVIII century to the Revolution of 1917.

The exposition reflects the main historical stages of formation and development of Russian Guards cavalry regiments in the XVIII – early XX centuries. Details of uniforms and items of equipment, weapons, awards and regalia, presented at the exhibition, focus on the brightest episodes of combat duty guards and allowed to examine the changes over time of their appearance. Also on display you can see the battle painting and samples of equestrian portrait, including rare - privates and non-commissioned officers of the Guards regiments.  

A separate hall is dedicated to the history of Life Guards of Her Majesty which was stationed in Gatchina in 1822 before the outbreak of the First World War.

Also since November 27 the exhibition of one exhibit presents the golden sword “For Bravery”of the Grand Duke Mikhail Pavlovich from the collection of the Suvorov State Memorial Museum.

It features a sample of award weapon – the golden sword “For Bravery”, which grand Duke Mikhail Pavlovich (1798-1849) was awarded for in 1831 for bravery, showed in combats in the suppression of the Polish uprising.
