The ROSPHOTO State Museum and Exhibition Center together with the State Historical Museum (Moscow) are in St. Petersburg exhibition "A Look of the Russian Estate in Photography" showing a collection of manor photos of 1860-1920-s from the collections of the Historical Museum. The exhibition allows us to follow an evolution of the theme of domain in photography and to identify the main trends in the domestic farmstead scenes in the photography.

The estate appears on the exhibition in its several aspects: from the smart appearances of large estates and amateur photographs from family albums to artistic depictions of old parks and abandoned estates.

The last significant period of development of estate theme in art of photography has begun in 1920-s.  Huge interests in a study of the estate heritage and in lyricism of the ruined nests have attracted the leading Soviet photographers. Most of these estate pictures were shown at the famous exhibition of 1928 entitled "The Soviet Photography for 10 years." In the future, the disappearance of estate culture as a living and powerful tradition has led to disappearance of its appearance in the Soviet photography.
