Museums of Russia: The section of the permanent exposition “Russian Orthodoxy” is opened at the Museum of Religion in Saint-Petersburg

The Museum of the History of Religion (St. Petersburg) after two years and a large-scale re-exposition was opened to the public with the section of the permanent exhibition "Russian Orthodoxy".

Since 2008, the Museum of the History of Religion opens the fifth exhibition, which made it possible to present in its entirety to St Petersburg residents of all ages, both Russian and foreign tourists the history and development of religious ideas of mankind from the cave temples of primitive man to shamanism, polytheism of the ancient world civilizations (Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome) to the national and world religions - Christianity, Islam, Buddhism.

The main features of the new exposition:

- in eight rooms were accommodated about 500 unique exhibits from the museum, many of which have never been exhibited;

- maximum information saturation;

- Modern design solution of exhibition space, making use of electronic technology to achieve;

- New themes, including the "Church and State in the XX - early XXI century".

The exposition presents Russian Orthodoxy with the maximum fullness - from the moment of the baptism of Rus’ by St. Vladimir to the tragic pages in the history of the Russian Orthodox Church of the XX century and the revival of the church in the early XIX century.

A special section of the exhibition is devoted to the new Church and the Russian state on the main stages of their shared history - the emergence of Muscovy and the Russian Empire, the establishment of the Archdiocese and approval of the Institute of the Patriarchate, the Time of Troubles, the reign of the Romanov dynasty, the reforms of Patriarch Nikon. Among the exhibits section - a unique layout of Ivan the Great’s Bell, historical paintings by Russian artists (M. V. Nesterov, V. M. Vasnetsov, V. V. Pukirev and etc.), depicting the bishops of the Orthodox Church and Moscow Tsars.
